Association of Patients with
Fibromuscular Dysplasia and
Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection
Who are we?
We are a non-profit association dedicated to improving the diagnosis, treatment, and quality of life for patients with Fibromuscular Dysplasia (FMD) and Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD).
We work to provide visibility and raise awareness about FMD and SCAD, bringing together in a community all the people living with these diseases, their families, and friends.
Our work focuses on providing support and information to those living with FMD and SCAD, informing and accompanying them so they do not feel alone.

What is Fibromuscular Dysplasia (FMD)?
Fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) is a systemic vascular disease that is neither inflammatory nor atherosclerotic, characterized by abnormal cell growth in the artery walls, causing narrowing (stenosis), dilations (aneurysms), or tears (dissections).
FMD is a rare and underdiagnosed disease that can appear at any age, although 90% of cases occur in women aged 40 to 60 without cardiovascular risk factors. Commonly, the lesions are located in the renal and carotid arteries, although they can appear anywhere in the body.
What is Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection?
(Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection or SCAD)
Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection, or SCAD, is a rare, non-atherosclerotic cardiac emergency that causes an acute coronary syndrome when the wall of a coronary artery suddenly tears.
SCAD mainly affects women under 60 years of age without cardiovascular risk factors.
